The Last of the Great Mansions on the Kemijoki River
Before Juopperi by the River got a new life as a countryside hotel, it had a long history as a nursing home. Now, the mansion, completed in 1926 and respectfully renovated in 2021, serves those seeking the tranquility of the countryside.
Kemi Rural Municipality purchased Juopperin farmstead in 1915 as a poorhouse, two years before Finland’s independence. However, the facilities were not ideal for the purpose, so the municipality built a new main building and a large barn about ten years later. As a municipal nursing home, Juopperi continued until 1994, when the building was extensively renovated for a private care home. Over the years, the premises also hosted village association and adult education activities.

Mansion history
Dream of a countryside hotel in Kemi
While driving past Juopperin Kartano, Emilia Juntikka fell in love with the handsome log mansion located in a naturally beautiful spot. The dream of owning the mansion came true in an online auction, and work began to establish a countryside hotel.
Interiors with time-weathered value
Juntikka boldly took on the role of interior designer, although initially nervous. The log walls of the mansion, built in the early 20th century, have been partially exposed, and the entire renovation has been carried out carefully, respecting the old.
Kemijoki river flows nearby
Stylistically, Juopperin Kartano is divided into two parts: forest and river sides, which is also reflected in the color scheme of the rooms. The magnificent Kemijoki River flowing beside the mansion also offers various recreational opportunities.
